Theandb Switch Story

The day of days has come, the first Apple retail store in Europe is about to open its gates. And we were there.

The day:
08:30 Wake up, breakfast, wrap up Cille and wait impatiently for the babysitter
11:30 Babysitter comes, we are out
12:30 In the Eurostar on our way to London
14:30 UK time, we are there
16:05 Bjoern is banging his head to come up with the location of the Apple store
16:15 Some clue but still far away, it is probably Regentstreet (or so thinks Bjoern)
16:35 In front of the Apple store

Very crowded, long line of joyous mac-fans. Some pass-by'ers wonder why there is such a long queue: "Is this store giving big discounts today?" Answer: "Don't you get it guys? The first Apple store in Europe is opening!" Reply: "Aehm, I'm not so much into computers." (At least he knew that it had something to do with electronics).

We are in. Blue rays are flooding into our eyes. All glass, wide open space. We are inside a Mac! No, wait: Plenty of Macs to get our hands on. Competent, friendly and available staff. TheA nd TheB go each their own way, splitting up.

... 15 minutes later...

"Agnes, Agnes, I put in an order for 1) iMac G5 and 2) iBook G4! Do you have your credit card handy?"

"Wait, I absolutely have to buy an 1) ipod and 2) a camera! Can't we wait a minute?"

It didn't take us long up until Agnes had made up her mind and we lined up in front of the cashier. All shaky and excited by the products we were about to buy and the incredible atmosphere of the store (we are impulse buyers, yes).

But then; credit cards declined. The whole bunch of them. Panic. Disbelief. Not even the iBook was affordable anymore. Outside the store, actively searching for a way to not come back home with an empty Apple bag. Banks closed, can't call neither. Taking out all the credit cards in our possession we squatted the place in front of the ATM. Disk-jockeying the cards, we milked them up to the last .

... And made it. With enough s in our pockets for *just* the iBook to at least bring home something. To our relief, there were still a couple in-stock and available..! Handing over the massive pile of bills, the manual count proved that we had enough (barely).

Which makes TheB the first to switch.
