Sorry to the stolen generation and Australia day
What a great day February the 13th has been for Australia. Not since Australia day 2007 on which we were at beautiful Darling Harbor have i felt this connected to this large island of ours. On behalf of all non-indigenous Australians, Mr. Rudd delivered a long overdue 'Sorry' to the stolen generation, which refers to the more than 100,000 Aborigines children who were forcibly removed from their families based on cruel and wrong laws of that time (even up into the 70's). Over 10% of indigenous Australians living today over the age of 25 have been raised by people other than their own kin. Mr. Rudds speech is a down-to-earth, wonderfully crafted, strong speech that puts things the way they are and could simply have not been said any better. Here another article for the ones outside of Australia following our blog who would like to know more about this historic event for Australia.
Happy Australia day 2008 (yes, why not move it to Feb 13th instead of 26th of Jan? Would be awful not have all of Australia celebrate my birthday of course... :) !
