The truth: Loving it. It is incredibly sexy, amazingly slick, a crown of design. And so responsive and fast!
I almost couldn't hold back when the first iPhone generation came out. Now it is finally mine. Oh, actually it is ours. Agnes got one as well. :))

Here some pictures of us in Warringah Mall, Brookvale in beautiful Australia after queuing up at 6.30 AM in front of an Optus store. The best thing was that there was almost no one else, i am sure that the picture looked different in downtown Sydney. Living on the northern beaches has many advantages, one of them being; the concentration of geeks is lower! :)

This is going to be relevant to Aussies only but i feel the need to steam off somewhere after this mornings experience. :)

For those of us outside of Australia, NRMA is like the ADAC of Germany; Agnes and myself used to call them the "angels of the road". And it's really true, when one of the NRMA guys comes over to help you with your car that broke down for whatever reason they are of great help.

But when you have to deal with their customer service hotline they can be absolutely horrible. After our Daewoo broke down last week, we have had to tow it to three (!) different places in the hopes of getting it repaired. It's been driving us insane to have one car only where we really need two, living on the northern beaches and all. We don't need any help from the NRMA to push us yet closer to the edge of insanity. :)

And here they are, telling us we have to pay for any tows subsequent to the initial one. That's AUD 99 per tow, only to get it to the next garage and have them take a look at it. This is based on the NRMA's policy of allowing only "one tow per problem". Hello?! Hello?! That's exactly *our* problem! That we are still in the same mess, even after a week of different people trying to fix things up on the Daewoo. We'd need a little help here please to calm us down, ok? How about changing the policy to "one tow every 2 weeks" or something like that? Also; why not make some exceptions and leave it to the discretion of the customer-service personell?

Now let's see how high we can push this post in Google search-results for NRMA. :)

PS: At least the car now seems to be at a place where they will know how to de-activate its security system which was wrongly activated (outch).

---
"Frenchman poised for 'Great Leap,' a 40-kilometer-high adventure

He has spent two decades, and nearly $20 million, in a quest to fly up 40 kilometers to the upper reaches of the atmosphere using a helium balloon, just so he can jump back to Earth again. Now Michel Fournier says he's ready at last to make his "Great Leap."

Depending on weather conditions, Fournier, a 64-year-old retired French Army officer, will attempt what he has dubbed Le Grand Saut (The Great Leap) on Sunday [...]
At that altitude he will see the blackness of space on the horizon and the curvature of Earth below, and experience weightlessness. Then he plans to step out of his capsule wearing only a pressurized suit and a parachute, and plunge to Earth in a mere 15 minutes."

Since then, we have made great use of the Airport Express wireless router which has a plug that you can use for iPods or any computer speakers. Once powered up, it connected automatically to our wireless router. Speakers plugged in, iTunes fired up and boom the music was flowing. All in all, unwrapping the Airport Express and the speakers, connecting them and getting it set-up took probably no more than a mere fifteen minutes.

Now onto our new iMac. :)

To everyone who might have wondered: We are indeed still alive and kickin' down-under! First of all however, "Welcome to 2008" (did we miss something?) !

If we ever thought that we had been busy before, we were dead wrong. :) The last few months have been cramped full of things, both private- and business-wise. Where to start and end of what has been taking place in our lives is a challenge as we haven't been giving news since (believe it or not) October last year.

The big events since then:
No 1; Cille is a big girl now and going to pre-school which - for the uninitiated - the Aussies call kindie. She is starting to enjoy herself and is less and less exhausted. Learning to socialize in a large group like this, how to read and write, in fact learning to learn is quite a task for a girl that is only about to turn five end of May. Yesterday was the first time where she excitedly and proudly presented her newly found writing skills and wrote her first sentence.! :) She certainly knows how to have fun that girl.

No 2: We did manage to take time-outs to breathe and relax. The vacation in December was one of those. For now, we've only managed to upload one feeble video to YouTube. But Agnes promises to get onto editing all the other material soon. We rented a campervan - fitted out with amenities such as a fridge and two comfortable beds (!) - and drove a little up and down the New-South-Wales coast. It was the first time for us to venture away from the coastal line, into the marvelous areas surrounding Armidale with more national parks on offer than we've ever seen before. One of the best ones and a definite tip for anyone wanting to visit Aussie-land was the New England national park for sure. The road to Armidale itself was a fun ride; it offered us the solitude we were seeking, away from the crowds at the coast, over winding non-tarred gravel road, through green, green mountain (ok, hills) vistas, dotted with refreshing rivers we were happy to have a rest at.

No 3: A late happy birthday Bjoern who proudly turned 31 years old on Australia day, with the looks of a 22-year old (thanks to Marven for the inspiration).

No 4: We have moved out of our old house in Bolwarra Road into a much (!) larger, better situated, air-conditioned, closer-to-the-beach-and-lake, stylish, dishwasher equipped, better everything new house. The movers told us that we had been the most organised couple they had seen in a long time; no wonder, we've been through this a couple of times. Some last glimpses onto the deck and the day before the move. We'll shortly post another video of how we arranged it after the first few weeks there. We are looking forward to welcoming friends & family there, there's finally enough space to comfortably accommodate you.!

No 5: Our business is going very well and growing. We've worked long and hard on the launch of transLucidonline which will go 'live' within the next week. We'll certainly notify everyone we know on this planet of its launch once it will have taken place; guaranteed. :) The product development has created wonderful links with India and we are very happy with the demand placed onto the outsourced development project co-ordination arm of our business.

Also: Bjoern is making heaps of progress on the musical front of life, nurturing his musical skills and producing his first little album of which he has already released the first title of on YouTube. Who knows when it will get completed but it certainly will at some point. And Agnes has re-discovered her passion for drawing which she slowly but surely allows to seep into her pencils and onto paper.!

Phew, this was long post. For whatever we might have not covered, there might be a picture in our gallery of "random glimpses".

Lots of love,

What a great day February the 13th has been for Australia. Not since Australia day 2007 on which we were at beautiful Darling Harbor have i felt this connected to this large island of ours. On behalf of all non-indigenous Australians, Mr. Rudd delivered a long overdue 'Sorry' to the stolen generation, which refers to the more than 100,000 Aborigines children who were forcibly removed from their families based on cruel and wrong laws of that time (even up into the 70's). Over 10% of indigenous Australians living today over the age of 25 have been raised by people other than their own kin. Mr. Rudds speech is a down-to-earth, wonderfully crafted, strong speech that puts things the way they are and could simply have not been said any better. Here another article for the ones outside of Australia following our blog who would like to know more about this historic event for Australia.

Happy Australia day 2008 (yes, why not move it to Feb 13th instead of 26th of Jan? Would be awful not have all of Australia celebrate my birthday of course... :) !

I hope Americans themselves will be the liberating force... and not a UN mandated one. :)

I am more and more hopeful that there are enough candidates in the US presidential campaign on both ends of the lane that would have the courage to turn this country around. Agnes and I were very moved by the following video that was posted on YouTube by Republican congressman Ron Paul (and please read further below this video for a strong case to become active politically).

While there are glimpses of hope I cherish and hold onto like a small beacon of light in an otherwise pitch black night, I do at the same time also want to send out a word of warning to ones close to us who are (currently) living in the states. As a German I almost instinctively felt that something shifted on 9/11. A feeling of dread that was very unusual for my normally very optimistic outlook on life and the world at large, always having firmly believed in the innate goodness of humanity. But since that day I feel that something wrong and evil has been creeping into the ether. Monstrosities that were committed that should never happen again on this planet... and I sincerely believe that it would make this world a better place if the American people would stand up against opression, loss of freedom and liberties and wars that are without cause but being fought in the name of freedom and their country.

Naomi Wolf does a better job than I ever could at making the case that the time is NOW... and might I add that people living in America right now - like our dear friends - could be asked to stand up for what is RIGHT and against wrongs even before the election in 2008...

With lots of love and the best of all thoughts in my heart,
